AC Tune-Up Checklist

1. Coil cleaning. We clean the outdoor condenser coil and inspect the indoor evaporator coil. Pollen, cottonwood fluff, and grass clippings coat condenser fins every Lancaster County spring, and a dirty coil forces the compressor to run longer for the same cooling.
2. Refrigerant and pressure check. We measure suction and head pressures and line temperatures to confirm the charge matches the manufacturer's specification. A low charge points to a leak that is cheaper to find now than in July.
3. Electrical and capacitor test. We test the start and run capacitors under load, tighten connections, and check the contactor and wiring. Weak capacitors are the most common cause of a mid-summer no-start call.
4. Condensate drain clearing. We flush the drain line and clean the drain pan so algae growth does not back water up into the air handler or trip the float switch during humid weather.
5. Thermostat calibration. We verify the thermostat reads the actual room temperature and that it cycles the system correctly, so the house reaches the set point without short cycling.
6. Filter inspection and replacement. We check the filter and replace a standard size if you have one on hand, then note the size so you can keep up with changes through the summer.
7. Blower and airflow test. We inspect the blower wheel and motor, measure temperature drop across the coil, and confirm airflow at the registers. Weak airflow is the usual reason a coil freezes.

It is priced to make annual service an easy decision, because a system that gets cleaned and tested each spring runs cooler, uses less electricity, and is far less likely to fail on the hottest day of the year. If the visit turns up a worn part, we quote the repair separately before doing any additional work.

When to Schedule Your AC Tune-Up

Book in spring, before the first heat wave. April and May are ideal in Lancaster County: the system has sat idle all winter, the pollen that clogs condenser coils is at its peak, and our schedule is more open than it will be once the humidity settles in.
